Made for the nights that wreck a nervous dog's evening: fireworks, thunderstorms, a party next door, or the hairdryer at the groomer's.

How it helps

The hood wraps the head and sits over both ears, with a padded section on each side. It muffles sound rather than blocking it, so your dog can still hear you, but the bangs and booms arrive softer. The gentle, even pressure of a close-fitting wrap also settles a lot of dogs on its own, the same idea as being held.

For a dog with a severe noise phobia, use it alongside a quiet room, drawn curtains and advice from your vet rather than instead of them.

How it goes on

Slide it over the head so the ear sections sit over the ears, then fasten the strap under the chin until it is snug enough to stay put but loose enough to fit two fingers underneath. Put it on for a few minutes on a calm day first, with a treat, so it is familiar long before the first firework goes off.

In the water, too

The shell is waterproof, so the same hood helps keep water out of the ears when your dog swims, which matters for dogs prone to ear trouble after a dip. Always stay with your dog while they swim in it.

Sizing

Wrap a string around the head, from the top of the head to under the chin and across the ears, then measure it against a ruler. New Year's Eve is the other big night for fireworks, and thunderstorms, the groomer and the vacuum carry on all year, so there is plenty of use in it either way.
